We had an unexpected error during a routine update of the site on 7/1/2008 at around 3:00 pm. We had a problem with our labeling scheme in some of the pages. Online Survey on Attitudes, Knowledge and Beliefs about Tobacco

Colorado Social Research Associates (CSRA) is helping Signal to conduct an evaluation of Signal’s Tobacco Use Recovery Now (TURN) project. As part of this evaluation, CSRA is doing an online survey of provider staff attitudes, knowledge and beliefs about tobacco use in substance abuse treatment settings. The information from this survey will be used to help evaluate the progress of the TURN project.
All staff members of Signal providers are eligible to take this anonymous survey. If you are interested, please fill out the survey by clicking on the link below. It will take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete this survey. Your participation and assistance in this effort are greatly appreciated.
You may have already taken a similar survey in either February or March of 2005. Even if you already completed a similar survey, your answers to this survey will allow us to learn more about how staff attitudes and knowledge towards tobacco use have changed over time.

Sara has accepted an outstanding position with a consulting firm, which will provide her tremendous personal growth opportunities, as well as the luxury to work from home. While at Signal, Sara has made significant contributions in the IT area, as well as company-wide improvements in business processes, quality assurance, issue identification and documentation, and planning and implementation of change. Signal Receives Prestigious Grant

Signal Behavioral Health Network is the recipient of a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation under its Advancing Recovery initiative. Advancing Recovery is co-directed by David Gustafson of the Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and A. Thomas McLellan from the Treatment Research Institute (TRI) in Philadelphia. This two year grant in the amount of $360,000 is designed to stimulate systemic changes in this state that will lead to the increased adoption of evidence-based treatment interventions for alcohol and drug problems. A total of six grants were awarded. Signal will be partnering with the Colorado Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division; Arapahoe House; the Addiction Research and Treatment Services program within the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; Denver Health and Hospital Authority; and Island Grove Regional Treatment Center. ARTS Receives Signal's Quality Improvement Award

Signal is very pleased to announce that ARTS has been awarded Signal first annual
Quality Improvement Award for the change project conducted by the ARTS Peer I staff.
Using process improvement principles developed by the Network for the Improvement of
Addiction Treatment (www.niatx.net), Peer I was able to reduce by 50% the number of
clients who failed in treatment and were returned to jail or prison.
The Peer I change team was led by Pam Everett. Other team members were Louis Anaya,
Ken Gaipa, Linda Martin, Jeff Schidgen, and Paul Thompson. Signal sincerely thanks
the Peer I change team for their excellent work in addressing an issue of importance
to their clients and their community. In recognition of their change project, ARTS
will be given $1,500 with Pam Everett receiving an additional $1,500 to be used for
training and travel for her and her change team members. Each change team member
will also received a $50 gift card that can be used at any store in the Park Meadows mall.
ADAD Research Forum on July 19th at ADAD

Signal’s Tobacco Use Recovery Now (TURN) project will be participating in the half-day ADAD
Research Forum on July 19th at ADAD (8:30am to noon). The forum will include the following:
(1) research on the impact of tobacco use on our clients,
(2) a panel discussion including the recent tobacco policy changes at Arapahoe House, and
(3) useful hands-on materials to help clinicians address tobacco treatment with clients.
In addition, Dr. Elizabeth Stuyt of the CIRCLE program will present research on the
neurobiology of addiction treatment. A more detailed brochure will be forthcoming from
ADAD closer to the date, so mark your calendars now!

ARTS Staff Member Wins Major Award

Eric Ennis, Director of Outpatient Services, Addiction Research Treatment Services (ARTS)
received the prestigious Nyswander-Dole "Marie" award at the American Association for the
Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) Conference in San Diego on October 23rd. The "Marie"
award is the highest accolade AATOD can bestow on someone in recognition of his contributions
to the field. This award acknowledges Mr. Ennis's significant contributions to the treatment
of opioid dependence in Colorado. Mr. Ennis currently serves on the AATOD Board of Directors
and is the chair person for the Risk Management Committee. Eric's achievements have contributed
to the enhancement of patient care, research and medical education surrounding the application of
opioid dependence treatment. His influence and advocacy for these treatments have been significant,
impacting citizens and patients well beyond the State of Colorado. This year's awards banquet
included a special tribute to Dr. Vincent Dole, who passed away on August 1, 2006. His sons
and daughter presented the award in his memory.
